Earlier this year, the land of Bavaria attempted to block Bwin from freely competing against state-run gambling operations. The ban never came into effect as it was blocked by a higher court's decision, and now it was thrown out altogether.

One can't help but wonder where all this friction between local and global gambling interests is going to lead. One thing is certain though, the dispute should be solved in a manner that does not hurt the personal freedoms and rights of regular everyday gamblers.
