2010 WSOP Main Event champion Jonathan Duhamel was recently assaulted and robbed inside of his Montreal home. The two thugs forced their way into Duhamel's house around 9:00am in the morning, and they started beating the poker pro with their fists and unnamed weapons.
After their initial attack, the robbers tied Duhamel up and repeatedly hit him in the face to find out where his valuables were. The 24-year-old described this terrible incident in detail by writing, "As police reported, I was victim of an home invasion early yesterday, as two persons forced my entrance and beat me up and robbed me. After they threatened to kill me I gave them all I had. They then tied me up and beat me, hitting me in the face and all over my body before leaving my house. I’m glad to tell you that I did not sustain any major injuries."
Fortunately, Duhamel didn't sustain any major injuries - although he did spend some time in the hospital. Duhamel's press release on the robbery also included mentioned of this as it stated, "I spent yesterday at the hospital and I’m black and blue all over but no broken bones, no blood clots, nothing to worry about. Today, I am exhausted, both physically and mentally but I’m happy to be alive."
One thing that did hurt in the Jonathan Duhamel robbery is when the thieves stole his 2010 WSOP gold bracelet and a Rolex Submarine watch. Both items have the poker pro's name engraved on them, and both are very dear to him. Duhamel is really hoping these items get returned as he wrote, "I won’t hide the fact that these two items have a much larger value for me than their commercial value, and I really hope we will be able to retrieve them in a near future."
Montreal police are unsure if this was a random home invasion, or if Duhamel was being targeted by the robbers all along. Of course, the latter would make more sense because the Canadian is a famous poker player who's internationally known for winning the 2010 WSOP Main Event along with an $8.94 million prize.
