2012 has definitely been an excellent year for Phil Hellmuth since he won a record 12th WSOP gold bracelet and finished fourth in the Big One for One Drop ($2,645,333). And Hellmuth is in the process of adding another impressive finish to his resume since he's currently fourth in chips (364,900) after two days of the 2012 WSOPE Main Event. Considering how he won the 1989 WSOP Main Event, the Poker Brat certainly has the experience factor working in his favor.
Russians on Top
Little known Russian poker player Sergii Baranov ended Day 2 of the WSOPE Main Event on top with 607,000 chips. He has a solid lead over the next closest competitor, Axel Pergolizzi, who's got 419,000 chips. Baranov's countryman, Vladimir Troyanovskiy, is currently in third place with a stack of 375,100. And as mentioned before, Hellmuth is not far off the lead in fourth place.
Other Players who are faring Well
There are plenty of big-name players who are doing well thus far in the Main Event. Joseph Cheong, who finished third in the 2010 WSOP ME ($4.1 million), has the ninth largest chip stack with 328,400. France's all-time tournament winnings leader, Bertrand Grospellier, is looking to win the Main Event title for the WSOPE host country since he's 10th in chips with 326,700. Another player who's definitely worth mentioning here is poker superstar Daniel Negreanu, who is 12th right now with 290,000 chips.
2012 WSOPE Main Event by the Numbers
Numbers are down across the board for the 2012 WSOPE ME since 420 players bought in (593 last year), which leaves a €4,032,000 prize pool (€5.69 million in 2011). The winner from this year's tournament will take home nearly €1.06 million, and you can see the top 10 payouts below:
