If you play craps long enough, you're going to come across the terms "right betting" and "wrong betting." Obviously these terms are going to pique any new player's curiosity because the words right and wrong make it sound as if one type of wagering is superior to the other.
But the truth is that both right and wrong betting have their good points, and it's up to players to figure out which is more advantageous in their situation. This being said, here's a quick comparison of each style of wagering.
Right Betting
When you're a right bettor, you are wagering on the shooter to win. The two right bets include "pass line" and "come." A pass line wager is made on the come out roll, while a come bet is made after a point has been established.
Because these wagers see players bet with the shooter, rather than with the house, pass line and come bets are very popular. This is especially the case in land-based casinos, where craps turns into a team atmosphere with everybody cheering for the shooter. The house edge on both a pass line and come wager is 1.41%.
Wrong Betting
On the opposite end of the spectrum is wrong betting - a.k.a. going to the dark side. Both "don't pass line" and "don't come" bets are part of the wrong category because players are wagering against the shooter. That said, most people in land-based casinos like to avoid wrong betting since it entails rooting for the house. And this is definitely no way to make friends!
On the other hand, you also have to consider that the don't pass line and don't come wagers only feature a 1.36% house edge. Sure this is just 0.05% lower than right betting; but then again, this is still a smaller casino advantage. Many online craps players like to join the dark side because there are no other players around to admonish them for don't pass line and don't come bets.
So as you can see, your choice of betting style may be influenced by whether you're at an online or brick and mortar casino. Assuming you're all about the house edge, then wrong betting is definitely the right way to go.
